Blaser Picatinny Rail

story continues below...

If you’re buying a Blaser rifle, be it a single shot K95 or the R8 straight-pull, you will also have to factor in the cost of a scope mount, which will add around £400 to your total outlay. Their standard base is a dedicated, quick detachable bridge mount, system with a maximum length of 3.5” that includes rings with options of 1”, 30 and 34mm diameters. However, if you want to mount night vision, or something a bit different, what do you do? To service this need, Blaser offers their own Picatinny unit. It looks to be made of cast steel with a six inch run of Picatinny rail with a simplified mounting concept. The rail is slotted in the middle, we assume so that you can still use iron sights if the barrel has them. The transverse slots are 0.207” wide, so can handle nearly all compatible base lug systems. It attaches by the usual, two fixed lugs on the right that engage with sockets on the side of the barrel re-enforce. On the left, instead of the rotary locking catches, are sprung clamps that are tensioned by a Torx T25 driver. It’s a simplistic but secure system that sits low to the chamber area and does solve a problem. The downside is it’s priced the same as Blaser’s QD system, given the simplicity of the build we expected it to be somewhat cheaper!
