MTM Shooting Rests

MTM Shooting Rests

The more I shoot the more I now understand the importance of decent support kit. Yes you can try and zero a rifle lying on the dirt shooting off your belly and elbows, and you can. Likewise you can hold your gun while you clean it, but if you want to do it properly then items like rests are to be considered, equally places to put equipment like cleaning gear etc; well it just makes the whole thing more civilised! With this in mind I have two products from MTM Case Guard that are going to make any job of this type far easier and efficient.

WHO?

MTM Case Guard specialise in plastic mouldings and are perhaps best known in the UK for their wide range of ammo boxes, I have loads of them for my various calibres. But it does not stop there as they offer gun boxes, ammo cans, folding tables, rests, target frames etc, even a case holder for the reloader and scales. More of these another time, but on test we have their Site-In-Clean and Front Rifle & Handgun Rests.

story continues below...

The Site-In-Clean consists of a moulded base with individual compartments to hold cleaning kit and tools. This comes with rubber feet and a height adjustable foot for levelling. Integral are two sockets that accept two rubber-lined cradles that when fitted sit upright and hold the gun securely and will not damage the woodwork. These have cut-outs on the side for placing cleaning rods when not being used. A full size, snap-on cover is also supplied to keep your small items from falling out. As the name suggest the unit does double duty as a secure yet portable cleaning station or a shooting rest.

UP FRONT

MTM make a number of purpose built shooting rests and the Front Rifle Rest though the most basic is none the less effective. As before it consists of a solid, plastic, T-shaped moulding with three rubber feet for stability, an adhesive rubber pad can be attached to the arm of the T for a bit of comfort and is also good for when using it with a handgun.

The rest consists of a threaded bar with a large, rubber V-block on top to accept the rifles forend. This drops down into the main moulding and a large star wheel screws down onto the bar so you can use it to raise and lower the support. This gives three inches of vertical travel, which is generous, a thumb-screw is provided to lock it in place when you have got it how you want it.

Not a lot to complain about with these two as they work and are light, tough and well priced. As a rifleman I would urge you to see what MTM has to offer as I think you will find something to suit your needs.
