SLIP 2000 gun cleaner

Let’s face it gun cleaning is not the most exciting of subjects but if you want top accuracy and certainly reliability it’s something you cannot afford to ignore. Every month there seems to be a new brand coming out and new to me is SLIP 2000. Made in the USA they offer a number of propriety treatments and also all-in-one starter kits. What I have here from the importers/distributors is a 12-gauge shotgun Starter Kit.

Clean Yet Green

story continues below...

All SLIP’s cleaning products are non-regulated, contain no solvents and are biodegradable and offer the following items:  Gun Lubricants with preservative, Extreme Weapons Lubricant and Grease offers extreme pressure properties that are guaranteed to reduce friction and wear on those extreme weapons. 725 Cleaner/Degreaser cuts through the toughest cosmoline, carbon, grease and grime! Copper Cutter strips copper, lead, powder residue and plastic wad fouling from bore surfaces. Gas Piston Parts & Choke Tube Cleaner cleans automatic gas piston parts and choke tubes. Carbon Killer cleans the most tenacious carbon on contact, grease and even lead and plastic fouling. Black Powder removes firing residue. There are also a range of value packs such as the 12-gauge Starter Kit supplied, along with Ultrasonic Cleaners and Parts Washers and Soak Tanks. Finally The Brush Buddy, which offers a quick change for jags and brushes on cleaning rods.
The shotgun kit contains the a 4oz, pump bottle of 725 cleaner/de-greaser along with a 4oz (pump) and 1oz (squeezer) Gun Lubes. The smaller one is for field use and a Hoppes #9 Bore Snake, which is a combination pull-through/copper brush and a really useful field item. These snakes come in all sizes/calibres. The final item is the Choke Tube Cleaner, which is a large, 16 fluid ounce plastic jar full of the fluid.

Manky Maxus

The 725 cleaner/de-greaser is water-based and the instructions are insistent that after cleaning the gun lube is used to fill up the pores in the metal to prevent rusting. I decide to use my Browning Maxus semi-auto as a test bed as it has not had a lot of TLC lately. A scrub through with a rigid rod and brush and the 725 soon had the bore looking good as new. The gas parts and chokes were given a 15 minute bath in the Choke Tube Cleaner and came out sparkly and clean and then the Gun Lube was used as normal. Nice touch is that none of these products are harmful to rubbers and synthetics, so no worries on plastic stocks and finishes.
The Choke Tube Cleaner is good for more than one application, not sure how many as SLIP does not say, but I guess you just keep using it until it stops doing the job. But the ease of just dumping the parts in the jar excellent.
Sorry I can’t make this more exciting but there’s little doubt the SLIP 2000 products I tested work. I would also like to see how the Carbon Killer, Copper Cutter, Blackpowder and Brush Buddy works too…
