Britannia Rails

› The little things, often the most familiar, are the ones most easily overlooked, but they can make the biggest difference. Reliance quickly becomes the norm, and while a scope rail may not be the most exciting part of your rifle setup, it is undeniably one of the most crucial components to get right.
Too often, I’ve seen expensive rifles and scopes paired with the cheapest, ill-fitting rail that the gunsmith just happened to have on hand. Thankfully, Britannia scope rails, distributed by CSW Ltd, are here to save the day.
Made right here in Great Britain, Britannia is proud to supply an ever-increasing range of rifle rails. Their in-house research and development team continually works to redesign scope rails to fit new rifle models, ensuring end users achieve true precision. This is largely achieved using CAD designs transferred to their in-house 4/5-axis CNC machines.

Specifications
The rails are available for rifles from Anschutz to Weatherby and almost everything else in between. I tested the Tikka T1X model, which comes supplied with some Vibra-TITE threadlocker, some grub screws, and an Allen key. The material used is 6061-T6 aluminium, manufactured to the true MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail profile, ensuring compatibility with wide recoil-lugged scope mounts that wouldn’t fit thinner Weaver rails—a crucial distinction. The surface is finished with hard black anodising, making it completely weatherproof and highly scratch-resistant.

Attaching it
Fitting is straightforward, using four 6-48 screws and a T15 hex bit, both supplied, with the option of 0 or 20 MOA incline. You can order a standard-length (137mm) rail, an extended one (198mm), or a universal fit rail. Alternatively, there is even a gunsmith’s rail for custom fitment—a very handy option. There are plenty of slots to accommodate even the largest NV/thermal device, and the cutaway ejection port area ensures easy access and unimpeded ejection.

Performance
The rail attached snugly and precisely to my T1X and, importantly, aligned perfectly with the bore axis. Once installed using the provided Vibra-TITE threadlocker and tightened to the recommended torque setting (not exceeding 1.5Nm / 14in-lbs), the rail remains rock-solid. The mounting system ensures the rail stays secure on the dovetail, avoiding the sliding issues often encountered with some other designs, such as the CZ rail version.

Conclusion
I highly recommend these rails. They are exceptionally well-made, reasonably priced, and, above all, British! They represent a top-quality choice for anyone seeking precision and reliability in scope mounting.
