George Lincoln Jeffries 1847-1931

George Lincoln Jeffries, born in Norwich in 1847, became a renowned Birmingham gunmaker and played a key role in the early development of airguns. He produced numerous award-winning sporting rifles and shotguns and is best known for inventing the world-famous tap-loading underlever Lincoln air rifle, later manufactured by BSA. Jeffries died in 1931 and is buried at Brookfields Cemetery in Birmingham, but sadly, his headstone has become severely eroded over time. Plans are now in place to replace it with a permanent memorial honouring one of Birmingham’s great gunmakers.
