A rifle shooter is sacrificing his almost-half-a-metre-long ponytail to raise money for Cancer Research UK after beating the disease himself.
Chris Bartlett, who shoots at Emmett and Stone Range in Little Marlow, Buckinghamshire, was diagnosed with cancer five years ago. After an initial unsuccessful attempt at surgery that resulted in more than 30 minutes of CPR, surgeons successfully removed an aggressive tumour three months later. He has now been cancer-free for five years.
Mr Bartlett, who has previously customised rifles to raise funds for the Royal British Legion, decided to organise the head shave after learning that Amanda, a fellow shooter at his range, is currently undergoing cancer treatment. Watching a friend go through treatment reminded him of his own battle with the disease and spurred him to finally act on his long-held plans to raise funds for cancer research.
The event will take place at Emmett and Stone Range on Saturday 28 March at approximately 11am. Donations can also be made online for those unable to attend.
“If you’d like a swipe at my barnet with the clippers, come along and for £20 you can add to my impending baldness,” said Mr Bartlett.
