If you want to produce good quality and safe ammunition, a caliper of some sort is vital for measuring important dimensions like cartridge overall length and case trim length. A caliper from one of the more well-known reloading equipment manufacturers can set you back a fair bit of money, and although they are top quality, they can be a bit of a ‘luxury item’ that people sometimes chose to do without. The caliper on test is from Henry Kranks and is exceptionally well-priced, plus it has some great features that you would normally expect to pay a lot more for. The large and clear digital screen can display measurements in both metric and imperial units, with the ability to switch between the two options at the touch of a button. Also, the tool will measure up to 150mm/6”.

Accurate to within 0.001”, and designed to measure both internal and external dimensions, the caliper is ideal for the task of reloading. During testing, readings were found to be both accurate and consistent. You can lock the slide in place, which is great for testing the COL of a batch of ammunition, or re-zero the display at any length to check consistency or deviation in lengths.
