Let’s face it, anything manufactured by Cold Steel stands a chance of being significantly less than ordinary. And so it is with their entrenching tool, a thick wooden handled shovel based on the original Spetsnaz Russian Special Forces design. Cold Steel has thickened the gauge of the metal to 2mm, improved the balance courtesy of the varnished wood double handle and added a tough ballistic nylon sheath.
A versatile Tool
But it doesn’t stop there. The three edges of the shovel have been sharpened to a degree that it effortlessly slices a sheet of A4 paper, acts as a clever, hatchet or axe, drives in nails and stakes with ease, and wil even serve as an impromptu paddle should you ever need one… you can even dig with it.
Oh yes, it’s a useful little shovel for a variety of purposes whether you’re digging your 4x4 or quad out of the mud, form a small trench to let the water run away from your pheasant feeders or whatever. The shape and angle of the blade means it cuts neatly into the ground allowing the user to precisely cut away sods of earth to the exact shape or size required whilst the length of the handle means you’ve got plenty of leverage and a good firm grip with either one or two hands.
Lengthwise it measures just over 19½’ and weighs just a fraction over 26oz, the overall dimensions meaning it stows away in your motor with ease, can be carried in your kitbag or grip or attached to your rucksack or roe sack without any problem. It’s a genuinely versatile piece of budget priced equipment that I guarantee you’ll find more uses for than even Cold Steel suggest.
Cold Steel’s Special Forces Shovel and sheath will set you back £33.60p or just £24 without the sheath. For further details on the shovel and the full Cold Steel range contact BearArms on 0800 862 0411 or visit www.coldsteel-uk.com.
