CRKT Ashworth Turtle Knife

The first of these knives is the diminutive Ashworth Turtle from Columbia River Knife & Tool. Apparently CRKT first noted Georgia custom knifemaker and Knifemakers’ Guild member, Boyd Ashworth, when his custom “Thomas C. Turtle” models won back-to-back Best Miniature Folder awards at consecutive Blade Shows. These innovative little knives were marked by the use of Boyd’s own Damascus steels and exotic materials such as mother-of-pearl, fossil walrus, and gold. They could almost be classed as jewellery, and consequently, you could easily spend close to four figures to own one…

Columbia River thought the concept of the pendant/money clip knife was brilliant, and came up with the new production Ashworth Turtle™ series. Although not using exotic materials, these knives are still good looking and very useful too. The 1 inch razor-sharp stubby spear point blade is polished high-carbon stainless steel, providing a useful pen knife suited to hundreds of daily tasks. Just press the blade tang to open with either hand. The liner lock engages the blade tang and holds securely, yet is easily released when required.

Instead of exotic handle scale materials, CRKT have used advanced CPL composite, which is exceptionally strong and tough – it’s the stuff they make bowling balls with. The scales can be injection moulded in an almost infinite variety of colors and swirl patterns, and because of this process, each knife varies considerably, so every Turtle is virtually unique.

The Turtle comes with two CPL handle scales and a polished stainless money clip. If you decide to wear it as a pendant on your favorite neck chain (or key chain), simply unscrew the money clip, and attach the second CPL scale on the back. Then fold out the hidden chain holder and thread your chain through it. The model supplied has CPL scales in an anthracite black colour with a polished steel frame, and costs £24.95. There is also another version available with a Black Titanium Nitride frame and CPL scales in a white pearlescent finish which is priced at £30.95
