Mercury Hunter

Mercury Knives was not a company I was familiar with but HH sent me two of the folding knives they are stocking now. The firm hails from Maniago Italy and started making knives after WWII. The area is world famous as a knife making region.

First up is a legal carry knife called the Eight as it has eight tools, they do a seven version as well. I own a lot of SAKs but this Italian job is a different beast, the olive wood scales give it a different feel and the addition of a fork is genius. The blades and tools are stainless steel, the eight being. Main blade, non-locking and under 76mm so it’s UK legal carry , Scissors, Corkscrew, Awl, Can opener, Bottle opener(With flat blade screw driver end), Saw and lastly the Fork. It even has a split ring to attach a lanyard.

The price is genius too, under 30 quid for the olive wood version, if you are looking for something different but still dead useful the Mercury Eight is for you.

Stag’s party

As well as everyday carriers, Hunters are well catered for by HH’s Mercury range of pocket knives. The four blade stag hunter is an impressive bit of kit, it feels weighty in the hand. The Stag horn scales give the knife a real classy look as well as adding a good grip. The four tools comprise of a 79mm long Z50CD15 stainless steel locking blade, Saw, Corkscrew and a gutting blade with a blunt tip. Only the large blade locks open and it is released by pressing the raised rectangular section on the back of the knife. As well as the corkscrew for opening wine, it has a more useful bottle opener on the base of the super sharp saw. The saw teeth will glide through both bone and wood. The end of it is even shaped like a small flat blade screwdriver, it’s a useful knife this! The split ring for lanyard attachment is a must for me for any hunting knife, this one has it.

It’s a tough knife the Mercury Hunter, very solid. The Eight is a great alternative to the knife the rest of the herd always revert to. That is available in Stag too if traditional is your bag. Mercury knives have a lot to offer.
