Spyderco Roadie

UK legal carry knives have to share some traits — blades less than 76.2mm long and be non-locking, apart from that, the world’s your oyster! The Spyderco Roadie bucks the trend for such knives and its distinctive looks make it stand out from the crowd, especially the orange version, which is my favourite. It has a pair of dimples for two handed opening and there are no nail nicks that can trap dirt and the 90-degree semi-stop ensures for safe opening. It also has finger choils, giving the user total confidence in its ability to get the job done but not fold on their fingers.

The Roadie is possibly the most un-threatening everyday carry knife I have seen, the sheep’s-foot blade is made from a very high performance steel, Böhler-Uddeholm N690Co, with a full flat grind that is very, very sharp. The slightly sweeping profile makes it a good cutter. The trademark Spyderco hole in the back of the blade is only 4mm in diameter and there’s another 4mm hole through the scales at the very back of the knife to add a lanyard. The durable fiberglass-reinforcednylon (FRN) scales come in Black, Blue, Red, Grey Orange and have the spider logo embossed on each side. The notched joint mechanism gives a good semi-lock and the full-length back spring adds to this modern twist on a slip joint. As an everyday carry UK knife, I cannot recommend the Roadie enough; it’s a real quality item for a modern world.
