Gerber are world famous for their knives and multitools and rightly so, as they offer a huge range of high-quality equipment that is featurepacked but are generally affordable. Thomas Jacks recently sent some Gerber Winchester’ knives and they are all impressive in their own right.
First off, is the attractive Barrens fixed blade knife. It is a mid-sized knife with a curved, 3.3-inch, fine edged blade that is quite deep and perfect for dressing and skinning small game such as rabbits etc. and the smaller deer species etc. It is also a good companion for camping or other such outdoor activities. The Barrens has a full tang construction, which is very strong and the blade is 1/8-inches thick. Zebra wood handles are always rather stylish and they are attached to the tang with two Torx screws and there is a plate with ‘Winchester’ etched on it on the side. Thumb ridges are cut into the top of the blade for extra purchase when in use and the satin blade is made from 7Cr17MoV stainless steel. Overall length is 7-inches and the knife comes in a robust, black fabric belt sheath with a pressstud fastened strap for securing the knife safely when not in use. The Barrens costs £25.95. There are twin thumb studs to assist opening. The handle scales are made from aluminium and there is a handy pocket clip attached. For those who wish to attach a lanyard, a hole is provided. This is an attractive knife and is well-priced at £19.95
