Lansky 4 Road Turn Box

If you own a good quality knife it beholds you to keep it sharp - something that Lansky have turned into an art form, their pocket sharpeners are an absolute must for most hunters and outdoor enthusiasts.
But there are times when a little more effort is required if that perfect cutting edge is to be fully restored which is where Lansky’s Four Rod Diamond & Ceramic TurnBox comes into play, a self-contained sharpening system that’s designed to put a keen edge on almost any blade.
This two-stage knife sharpening system consists of a hardwood box that measures 6”x 2”x 1. By rotating the end plate of the box you get access to a pair of 5” long medium diamond rods (silver) and a pair of 5” fine ceramic rods (white, the idea being that the diamond rods are for when your blade needs some intense restoration, the ceramics for a fine cutting edge or for finishing. After you’ve withdrawn the rods you require, by placing the box on a solid, stable surface, you then have the option of placing the rods at either a 20 or 25 degree opposing angles, the box – cum – stand holding them securely in place whilst the sharpening process is carried out.
By alternately stroking each side of the cutting edge down and across each rod, the exact mirror image of a traditional knife steel in use, your knife’s fine cutting edge is quickly restored in a matter of minutes. To choose the correct angle of sharpening, Lansky suggest that the 25 degree medium angle is reserved for heavier use – providing a sharp, durable edge for hunting, camping, utility and chef’s knives, while the 20 degree angle best suited to finer work or for those tasks that need a very sharp edge - slicing, filleting, paring and skinning blades – but may require more frequent ‘touching up’.
If the blade you need to sharpen is completely dull (or has been neglected), Lansky suggest you start with the diamond rods at 20 degrees but not to sharpen to a keen edge. The sharpening process is then completed by transferring the rods to the 25 degree angle where the diamond rods followed by the ceramic rods will complete the job. But whatever your sharpening needs, the Four Rod TurnBox is quick to deploy, very easy to use and above all incredibly effective, even the bluntest knife being restored to full working order after a few minutes. Given the fact that the TurnBox will take on virtually every knife or blade you care to mention, this little wooden box of tricks is one of the most universally useful knife maintenance outfits you’ll ever add to your edged blade inventory.
The Four Rod TurnBox retails for £32-95p and slightly less for the two rod versions. For further details on all the TurnBox Knife Sharpeners and all of Lansky’s other products contact BearArms on 0800 862 0411 or visit www.coldsteel-uk.com.
