Spyderco’s Spyderco UK Penknife Lightweight Leaf Shape is designed with UK law in mind and has a sub-3” non-locking blade. Though the original was far from heavy the Lightweight uses FRN scales and a reversible wire clothing clip to reduce the fat even more. The 2.94” blade is made of CTS BD1 stainless with a spear point shape and concave edge and the usual thumbhole opener.
It weighs 1.9oz and is a neat package at 4” closed and 6.9” open. The handle is well shaped and there’s a choil up front with jimping sections at the rear of the blade top and bottom. The slip lock shows a good operating pressure and is secure in use, though if you are used to a lock it takes some getting used to! Spyderco offer this model with black, grey, blue and maroon handle colours.
Although positively designed to comply with UK law, the whole issue of carrying a knife in a public place is fraught with problems. The law states that if the blade is non-locking and under 3” then it’s legal. Which is one of the reasons it was built, however, the law also states good reason to possess, which is an entirely different matter!
The Leaf Shape C94FRN is priced at £46, for details of stockists contact Edgar Brothers Ltd at 01625 613177 or visit http://shootingsports.edgarbrothers.com
