Built in America and proud of it – if the packaging is anything to go by - the ZT Hinderer series of folders was designed by Rick Hinderer, hence the name, and in standard form it is a formidably strong and competent knife with a tough Crucible S35VN stainless steel blade. However, the model that we have here is a Limited Edition – the ZT 0560CBCF!
With Carbon Fibre front scale, skeletonised titanium back and zig zag design composite blade - this limited edition of this Rick Hinderer 0560 classic, is one very special knife.
The composite blade has a stonewash cutting edge of S110V and a spine of 14C28N. The combination of a 3D machined Carbon Fibre handle scale and 3D machined skeletonised titanium frame keep the weight of the knife down. The 0560CBCF also features the Zero Tolerance Quad-Mounting System, a versatile design which allows for tip-up, tip down, left or right hand carry with a deep pocket clip. A slotted lanyard hole completes the handle.
The blade has flipper assisted opening with a KVT ball-bearing system for smooth one-handed operation, and the titanium frame gives a solid and secure ‘lock up’.
The S110V/14C28N composite blade length is 9.5cm with a substantial thickness of 0.4cm. Overall open length of the knife is 22cm and 13cm closed.
This is a very solid and substantial folder, and could easily take the place of a fixed blade in many work/sports situations, unfortunately its size precludes it from being an EDC knife in the UK.
The price of this Limited Edition ZT 0560CBCF model is £339.95, and if you want something special it is well worth it, however it should be noted that the ZT Hinderer 0560 can be purchased in several more standard formats that will all get the job done, from around £140 upwards.
