Known as the ‘ultimate survivor’, due to his welldocumented accomplishments and hugely popular media profile, there’s few who can doubt Bear Grylls’ credentials or credibility in Bushcraft or as a Survivalist; and, considering the Gerber multi-tool on test has the grandiose denotation of ‘Ultimate’, you’d be right to wonder if it can live up to that name and its endorsee’s achievements – let’s see…
The Ultimate’s Stainless-Steel handles have a gun-metal grey anodised finish plus textured grey rubber inserts that gives a very assured hold. Measuring 4-inch in the closed position, 6.6-inch when open and weighing in at 8.8oz, this butterfly opener is one of the heftier, yet not overly heavy tools on the Gerber roster.
The spring-action needlenose plier heads are certainly strong in build and give impressive gripping power and the pliers have regular pliers, hard wire cutters and wire strippers. When closed, you have access to a 2-inch long fine edge knife blade, 2-inch long serrated knife, 2-inch Wood Saw, Phillips Screwdriver, small and medium flat head screwdriver, bottle opener, can opener, Fiskars scissors and lanyard ring.
All tools are deployed using thumb-assists and, when open, they lock out securely using Gerber’s patented Safe.T.Plus System - one of the safest for reliable and dependable use when any tool is deployed.
To unlock, you slide back the serrated edge ‘narrow bar’ shape catch (duplicated on the opposite side) and the tool you have been using can then be folded back into the handle.
Boasting 12-Stainless Steel, weather resistant components, the Bear Grylls Ultimate Multi-Tool comes with a mildew resistant, lightweight, military-grade Nylon Sheath.
