The Leatherman Charge Plus multitool replaces the now discontinued ‘Charge’ and measures 4-inches closed, 6-inches in the deployed position and weighs 8.3oz. In the closed position, you have a 154CM clip-point fine edge blade, and diamond coated wood/metal file. The opposing handle has a wood saw and a 420HC serrated edge knife with gut hook. Both knife blades have elongated thumbholes for one-handed opening, while the ‘file’ and ‘saw’ have thumb nicks. They all lock out very securely, due to very strong lock liner mechanisms and all outboard tools measure approx. 3-inches in length.
The head has needlenose pliers, regular pliers, premium replaceable wire cutters and wire stripper. There are also spring-action scissors, bottle/ can opener, large and small bit drivers and a medium flat head screwdriver. To unlock any of these tools when deployed, you simply press in the grooved portion of the lock system and rotate the ‘tool’ back into the chassis.
It comes with a ‘Bit Kit’ in an unobtrusive ABS ‘card holder’ that fits neatly into the sheath, even when filled. The kit comprises of a square driver #1 & #2, eyeglass screwdriver, hex 5/32-inch & 9/64-inch, 1/8-inch & 7/64-inch, 3/32-inch & 5/64-inch and 1/16-inch & .050-inch bits, Phillips #1-2-inch & 3/16-inch screwdriver plus a 1/8-inch & Torx #15 screwdriver head. Also included is a Quick Release Lanyard Ring and Removable Pocket Clip.
To sum up, I’d say the Leatherman Charge Plus is a very fine example of how the company are increasingly adding beneficial features to their multi-tools as they ‘fine-tune’ certain models in the range. And this can only be a big ‘plus!’
