Leatherman brings us yet another multitool, this time called the Curl. However, its design will be familiar to some as it has been inspired by their very own, Wave Plus model. However, the Curl holds fewer tools, has nonreplaceable wire cutters and is much lighter. It is of an all-stainless-steel build and follows the tried, trusted and tested blueprint of a typical butterfly opener. With a closed length of 4” and weighing 7.5oz, the Curl falls firmly in what many would describe as a mid-size multi.
In the closed position, you have access to the 2.9” 420HC fine edge knife blade and diamond-coated wood/ metal file. The former has an elongated thumbhole for ease of one-handed opening, while the other is deployed using a lug. In the open position, you have needlenose pliers, regular pliers, wire cutters, hard-wire cutters and a wire stripper.
When open you can also access the other tools, which include springaction scissors, awl with thread loop, large bit driver (including small crosshead/ flathead bit), medium flathead screwdriver, can opener and a bottle opener. Unlike the Wave Plus, it forgoes an outboard wood saw and serrated blade.
Its quality of manufacture isn’t in question, and it’ll cope with most heavyduty field tasks, plus it is light and compact to carry. It has a removable pocket clip, comes with a quality nylon sheath and is backed by Leatherman’s 25-year warranty.
