New Lansky Sharpners

Anyone that reads these columns regularly will know that I’m a long time user of the Lansky Universal Sharpening System, and I can’t recommend them highly enough for honing a knife in the comfort of your own home or workshop. With the various holders, stones and hones available, you can get a first class edge on any knife. Now Lansky have a new addition to the system – the Lansky Leather Stropping Hone.  This is for those who want to combine a traditional leather strop with the Lansky system for an ultra-fine finish; at £11.95, I know I’ll be adding one to my set.

Another two new items for the knife sharpener working at home or workshop are the Tri-Stone Benchstone – a really handy and modern take on the benchstone system with Diamond, Alumina-Oxide and Ceramic stones mounted on a rigid block that can be freestanding (on the bench) or permanently bench-mounted. This will take you threw from putting an edge back on a totally blunt knife right up to fine finishing. Price is £65.95. The second home sharpener is the Diamond/Ceramic Four Road Turnbox Sharpener. The turn box systems have always been popular, and this one expands on the current range with 2 Ceramic and 2 Diamond rods in one box which is set up to give 25 degrees (sharp but durable) or 20 degrees (very sharp) edges. Price is £32.95.

Lansky have also added a versatile new sharpener for field use – and we do mean versatile. The Tactical BladeMedic Knife Sharpener is actually four sharpening tools in one, and features tungsten carbide ‘V’ rods, ceramic sharpening ‘V’ rods, a serrated knife sharpening stone and a diamond tapered rod – in fact a whole battery of implements to sharpen just about anything from a fish hook to a Bowie knife. At just £12.95, this is such a good buy that we are making it one of our top Christmas gifts in next month’s issue.
