REXIMEX META PLUS

story continues below...

I have seen a lot of new rifles from Reximex over the past year, and every single one of them has impressed me, so I was very curious when I got wind of the Meta Plus model. Would it live up to my now high expectations of this company? Well, let’s take a look and find out.

Some of the features
The design of this rifle is really likeable. It’s totally modular and truly ambidextrous, thanks to the reversible side-lever cocking handle.
The first thing you’ll notice is that there is a three-axis adjustable butt pad fixed to the rear end of the stock. This can be adjusted in all manner of ways, from both height and slant, right down to the micro-adjustments to the arms of the pad itself, which are all easily moved to obtain the perfect fit, all via Allen screws. There’s even a monopod included, which slots into the base of the butt pad block, and for anyone who shoots from a bench, this is a really nice touch.
You’ll notice that the pistol grip is akin to that of an AR-15 rifle. It’s covered in soft-touch material and feels very comfortable, with a decent backward slant.
Up on top, you have a 210mm Picatinny rail that will house any scope you choose to put on it. I’ve opted for a HikMicro Cheetah on this occasion, but if you want to slap a 4-16x50 scope on it, you’ll have no problems at all.
There’s a lower Picatinny rail attached just below the base of the air bottle, and this can be used for a bipod. There are also a further two Picatinny side rails, which are going to come in very handy for those of us who like to shoot traditional IR night-vision scopes, as it’s the perfect place to mount your IR torch or even a laser.

Important components
The 480mm-long barrel is fully shrouded with an integrated moderator, and there is a ½” UNF thread hidden underneath the removable end cap. It’s surprisingly quiet without the addition of an external moderator, and I really didn’t feel the need to add one.
As far as cocking is concerned, there’s always a trade-off with bullpup designs due to the linkage required to cock the rifle. I’m pleased to say that the Meta Plus has a rather smooth cocking action, and although it seems a little stiff, to begin with, it’s not, as it’s just designed that way to be solid and positive. There’s a 35mm drop-down handle that makes it easier to pull the lever back just past the 90-degree position to cock the rifle. Once cocked, gently sliding the lever forward sends the pellet probe through the mag to load your pellet. Overall, it’s all very slick.

Seriously adjustable
This rifle features a two-stage adjustable trigger that allows you to adjust the blade height and angle using a tiny screw that holds the blade to the post. The trigger blade is quite wide and has a gentle, crescent-shaped curve to it. It sits nicely on the pad of your trigger finger.
Straight out of the box, I found the first-stage pull extremely short, so pretty much non-existent if I’m honest, but it was easy enough to predict the break. I prefer not to adjust triggers until I have familiarised myself with a rifle. I am also hesitant to modify the trigger on a review rifle because it defeats the purpose. I need to evaluate the rifle as if I had just purchased it from a store.
There’s a manual safety lever situated immediately in front of the trigger, inside the rather funky trigger guard. Simply push it forward for fire and pull it back for safe. It’s very positive and reasonably heavy to operate until you get used to it.

Lots of air!
What sets this rifle apart from the original Meta model is the huge 425cc air bottle in place of the 280cc cylinder. There’s also a 90cc pre-chamber on the Plus, which gives a whopping 515cc in total!
This rifle is regulated, and there is a manometer to the rear of the 90cc pre-chamber. You will also find a large dial at the very rear of the rifle that allows you to adjust the hammer spring externally.
There’s also a power adjuster knob on the right-hand side, immediately in front of the magazine port. This allows you to set the power output from a minimum of 7 ft/lbs to a maximum of 11.5ft/lbs. This is a handy feature for those shooting in their back garden. If you like to tinker with your rifle, there’s plenty to play with on the Meta Plus.
At the very end of the main bottle, you’ll find a branded fill gauge that is colour-coded and very easy to read. Flip over to the left-hand side of the rifle and you’ll find the fill port hidden beneath a yellow plastic cap. This simply pulls off to allow access to the port.

There are two of them
You get two rotary magazines supplied with this rifle, a bunch of Allen keys, and spare O-rings, all housed inside a cardboard box that fits neatly inside the supplied hard case. The mags are the spring-loaded, clear cover type. With the straight edge of a mag facing to the right, simply rotate the clear cover on top all the way anti-clockwise to tension the internal spring. Next, drop a pellet in head-first to lock everything in place, then rotate the cover clockwise, dropping your pellets in as you go. The loaded mag can then be inserted from the left-hand side, and there is a moulded groove and lip to ensure that it slides in securely.

Range time
The Meta Plus performed better than I expected on the range. At my usual 30m zero, I was hitting 6mm groups using the .177 model sent to me for review. Pushing it out further and further at my club’s range, I was soon hitting the knock-downs and spinners out to 50m!
It’s slightly on the heavy side at just over 8.6lbs unscoped, but then again, it is designed as a target rifle rather than for hunting. That said, it’s very well-balanced and comfortable to use from all manner of shooting positions, and I would have absolutely no second thoughts about taking the Meta Plus into the field.

Conclusion
If you like your bullpup-style rifles and fancy something that can be tinkered with, then the Reximex Meta Plus is well worth having a look at.
