The V22 is the oldest 22 rimfire AR15 upper (barrelled action and forend) available. Made by CZ for Victor Arms it comprises of a flat top receiver with Picatinny rail, round, aluminium, free-float forend and a 16” light, H-BAR barrel. There’s a dummy gas block with a length of Picatinny on it for a Q/D iron sight and the muzzle is not threaded. The action cocks on the right side with a reciprocating handle. There is no provision for automatic, last round or manual hold open and feed is from a dedicated, 10-round box magazine. The V22 will drop on and work with any quality AR15 lower.
SGC now offer an in-house, 25-round magazine that addresses the low capacity. The V22 Military is configured like the M4 Carbine with round/plastic handguard and A-frame front sight. As before the barrel is 16” though shows an M16 flash hider and is threaded 1/2x28” UNEF. This is available as an upper or a complete rifle with a CAR15-type telescopic stock and 25-shot mag as standard.
Though reliable and accurate the V22 is a bit dated to the new crop of rifles in this area, especially in the control functions. SGC has announced they are updating the design to include hold-open controls etc. However, it provides the 223 AR user a strong and easy rimfire conversion and, through SGC, many customisation options.
For: Solid and strong, should last well
Against: No hold open systems
Verdict: Basic build, new version should be better
