Revo Premier Game

Revo Premier Game

The in-house brand from Sportsman Gun Centre, the Turkish built range of Revo shotguns have over time gained in quality, offered even more value for money and attracted an ever-increasing number of owners. And after you’ve shot the latest Premier Game 12g you can fully understand as to why. This shotgun also represents the increasing market in 12-bores that’ll carry out a variety of functions, whether its game, wildfowl or clays, the Premier Game is more than able to tackle them all, at a price that suits virtually every pocket and every level of shooting.

Like many shotguns of this type, the Revo Premier Game comes complete with a tough plastic travelling case and a full set of five flush-fit choke tubes and key. In other words, screw in the restrictions you prefer, assemble the gun and you’re ready to set off to the peg or stand. The furniture is semi-lacquered, the game style stock fitted with a narrow rubber butt-plate, complete with a solid insert at the heel to ensure a no snag mount. With minimal cast and a nicely profiled ambidextrous grip, not only is the Premier Game comfortable to hold and mount, it also means that smaller shooters and those of the opposite hand will find this Revo should fit them quite well.

Moving forwards, the forend has adopted the more modern, smoothed lines profile, a style that in my opinion not only improves the overall looks but makes the gun far more comfortable to hold and manipulate. Whilst the shooter keeps a firm hold of the grip, the demands of game shooting often mean that forward hand flexibility is an absolute necessity, the Premier Game’s forend perfectly shaped to keep the muzzles on target. Likewise, the neat panels of matching chequering on both grip and forend help the shooter maintain a secure hold.

Scrollwork

For a shotgun built for a budget, the quality of the ornamentation is excellent. Tight, dense scrollwork decorates every part of the mechanical alloy boxlock action, along with matte stippled fences. A black trigger guard and gold-plated trigger adding a small amount of contrast, whilst the smooth top tang houses the black top lever and that most dreaded of appendages, the auto safe. Whilst many game shooters prefer the auto safe, as someone who shoots clays, a manual catch is to be preferred, since the gun is only closed at the very last moment. That said, the Revo’s sliding catch is broad and positive to disengage, as is selecting barrel discharge order.

Moving towards the muzzles, nicely blacked 30-inch barrels are separated by a narrow slot vented mid-rib and topped off by a low stanchion 7mm cross-cut vented top rib, a small silvered bead set just back from the muzzles. Feeding into three-inch monobloc chambers that ensure this game gun is able to easily cope with any ammo the shooter might need or use, the looks, decent fit and finish and layout of the Premier Game give this shotgun a purposeful remit and feel.

The overall weight and length of the Premier Game is 8lbs 10oz and 48-inches, meaning it more than easily absorbs heavier loads, with a balance point just over an inch forward of the hinges. This means that the mass sits in the shooter’s leading hand, which in turn means the swing is slower and more considered. Length of pull is a comfortable 147/8th of an inch, although the 7lbs 5oz pull weight would benefit from lightening up a touch. Similarly, although there was no hint of creep, the notchy feel will probably ease with use and very light lubrication.

Shoots right

As always, it’s thanks to Malmo Guns for the use of their private layout and the generous supply of 28g Cheddite Mach 3 cartridges. It might seem like a shameless plug but for a top end, hard-hitting competition load, this ammo never fails to impress. They decimate clays but are incredibly soft on the shooter; and so they proved with the Revo, the choking left classic game restrictions of ¾ and ¼ the Premier Game lived up to its name.

The gun mounts easily, swings and changes direction with controlled ease and soaks up recoil. And unlike most game specific shotguns, it shoots flat; completely eliminating the need to determine how far underneath you might need to be. Instead, keeping the muzzles level with the bird or an exact amount over or under dependant on target means a clean kill.

Should you want any more proof, 60 of Malmo’s clays were thrown from various angles, at varying distances as both singles, on report and simultaneous pairs. The end result was 60 Mach 3 shells were shot and 60 clays were comprehensively hit. Similarly, the gun has a wide gape with strong, well timed ejectors, meaning that when the birds start flying, you’ll be more than able to keep up with each flush, no matter how demanding.

Conclusion

Price-wise, the Revo Premier Game 12-bore is all yours for £499.99, be it the 30-inch as tested, or the slightly shorter 28-inch version. It’s also a fraction cheaper if you opt for the non-ejector model. You can save even more money if you go for the 20g or 28g versions, both of these coming in at £449.99.

With a 100% success rate and only one minor criticism, from my own perspective I can’t really find fault with the Revo Premier Game. For me, it shot perfectly straight out of the box, so I can’t really see why this Revo wouldn’t do exactly the same for you.

With grateful thanks to Malmo Guns, who can be contacted on 01524 793 007 and for the provision of their private layout and generous supply of Cheddite Mach 3 ammunition.
