story continues below...

Written by one of the earliest members of the SAS during WWII, his first-hand accounts of fighting would have amazed readers who would know nothing like them. Today with so much information released, we know much different. Research into unit histories tell much more, but the details in this book were still fresh in the author’s mind. It is a thrilling reading and reveals so much more behind the creation of the SAS and warfare in the desert. This was, and still remains, a soldier’s book with humour, adversity, drama and disaster. Fire fights, the dangers of traversing vast distances in an inhospitable environment, interwoven with moments of relaxation, make this a gripping general read. For research into desert warfare in WW II it is indispensable and enthusiasts interested in the history of the SAS will find much useful information in it.
