Fated to Defeat

Fated to Defeat

It is a well-known fact that Germany recruited foreign nationals to serve in its elite SS Divisions, including volunteers from occupied countries such as Belgium and France. Mostly the histories of these units concentrate on the halcyon days when they were at their peak of fighting prowess. This is a different approach by looking at the last desperate days of the war when the survivors of the French 33rd Charlemagne Division were fighting for their lives. This is the sad history of the 4,500 Frenchmen who fought in Pomerania, many of who were captured by the Russians. The photos show then and now for comparison and the maps are useful. This is a history worth telling and well worth reading.
