From the Riviera to the Rhine

From the Riviera to the Rhine

On the 15th of August 1944, ten weeks after the Allied landings in Normandy, the Germans were faced with another amphibious landing, this time in the South of France, as the Allies increased the pressure to liberate Europe. The second landing, called ‘Operation Dragoon’, is often overlooked in favour of the more famous battles of the Normandy Campaign. This book comes in time to mark the 75th anniversary of the operation that linked up with the units in the north of France, which combined to drive the Germans out of France. The maps, diagrams and photographs, from then and now, present a comprehensive insight into the fighting on the ground and the impact of air support which destroyed bridges. As a departure from the usual battles to liberate Europe, this work has few to equal it and tells a chapter of history which deals with a campaign that is rarely ever thought about.
