Some volumes can be rather ‘heavy going’ and require time to work up to them. For the younger students interested in WW II there is a different range of books and this is one of them. Although presented in the style of a Commando comic book with hand-drawn illustrations in full colour this is not a comic book. The text is written in a style which will be understood by students from around the age of ten years but it contains all the facts, figures and details of the history of the great structure of the Maginot Line. The work contains all the reasons behind the building of the defensive fortification which stretched along the French border with Germany, the way in which it was built along with how it fared when war came. As an introduction to a subject this is very good and because some of the locations can be visited this can serve as a guidebook for the younger visitor.
