When Japan attacked China in 1937, it was viewed as a ‘sideshow’, much the same as the Italian attack against Ethiopia in 1935. What the Sino-Japanese War became was the longest fought campaign in WWII.
This book looks at the formations of the Chinese army the tactics it employed, along with the weapons and armour it used in the fighting. This is a hefty work on a complex subject, but it is highly rewarding with the wealth of detail contained and provides more answers than questions. The illustrations are extremely rare and the lists of units, weaponry and many other topics have been meticulously compiled. If a reader is looking for one reference work on the fighting between China and Japan, this is it. You will not be disappointed.
