New Zealand Infantryman v German Motorcyle Soldier
- Last updated: 26/06/2017
The setting for this work is the island of Crete 1941, after the British army has evacuated the Greek mainland and now preparing for the German invasion. By concentrating on the New Zealand soldiers and comparing them to the German counterpart, the author is doing them a great service. When the Germans invaded, it was the use of airborne forces which took the Allies by surprise. Despite that, they fought a hard battle for almost two weeks, during which time each side gained a respect for one another.
The author balances out the capabilities of the opposing forces, their equipment and weapons and the role of the motorcycle by German troops. If going on holiday to the island, take this with you, as an alternative guide book, to look at the locations, such as the small village of Armenoi, where a fierce engagement was fought on 28th May 1941.
