The First (US) Infantry Division

story continues below...

The First Infantry Division was raised in 1917, so this work marks the centenary of this famous unit, which first saw service in WWI. Since then, it has gone on to become unarguably one of the most famous units in the American army and in less than 100 pages the authors take the reader through a history lesson through WW II, Vietnam and Desert Storm. However, it is the period of WWII where the most attention is focussed and rightly so. This was one of the few battle-experienced units to land on the beaches at Normandy, having seen combat during the landings in North Africa and Sicily. The book traces its fighting capability from Omaha beach through France, the Battle of the Bulge and into Germany, with details of personalities who won medals for bravery. This is a great photographic reference work for modellers and the text will be enjoyed by those who like personal accounts and lots of details.
