The Great Conspiracy

The Great Conspiracy

story continues below...

We tend to think of espionage and counterespionage as relatively modern applications to warfare. As this book shows, organised spying on one’s enemies in time of war is much older than we think. Against the usual list of who is who in the war against France in the 11-year period covered in this work, 1794-1805, we discover the intrigue which went on behind the scenes. The search for information and the spreading of dis-information on both sides extended beyond the borders of Europe, to reach across the Atlantic to the shores of America. First-hand accounts support the history and the author has a style, which puts the reader in the room where the event happened 200-years ago. The actual Napoleonic Wars are more familiar as a subject, but this covers the period of the Revolutionary Wars and Napoleon’s emergence to prominence. This is a work that expands the history of a period.
