The Home Front: Deepening Conflict

The Home Front: Deepening Conflict

story continues below...

We are used to seeing books about WWI, which concentrate on the theatres of war itself, but in this volume the author brings a fresh approach to our understanding of the Great War. He takes a different point of view and looks at life on the Home Front, not only in Britain, but all the other countries involved in the conflicts, including Germany.

Using original photographs and postcards, we are treated to a rare look at how civilians coped and how the wounded were treated back in their own country. A brief introductory text for 1915 and then it is straight down to business of photographs with informative captions. These images will prove fascinating and the subjects will astound. For example, the Byrne and Hinxman families, who each had eight family members serving in various regiments and units.
