Whether a collector of militaria, modeller, war gamer or battlefield tourist, this book has something for everyone interested in the war of 1812 in America. The author explains tactics, weapons, the difficulties of supplying the armies and the differences in standards of officers and troops. The section on the Battle of Queenstown Heights on the 13th October 1812, with its first-hand accounts of events, is a fascinating part of the book and the accompanying map and description of events make it possible to visit the site. At a time when Britain’s attention was focussed on events in Europe, it is easy to forget that the country was fighting a second front, something this book corrects so well.
