Leica Binoculars

A hunter of whatever type needs to carry a huge pair of powerful binoculars right? Wrong! Not when it’s a pair of Leica’s 10x25 Ultravid compacts.  Completely dispelling the myth that decent magnification only comes in bigger bodied binoculars, the Ultravid binos are proof positive that a shooter who wants to cut down on the amount of kit they carry is well catered for.

Just 43/8” x 43/8” x 1½” and weighing just over 9oz, the Ultravid’s are of aluminium construction, rubber armoured, shock and waterproof down to 16ft, nitrogen filled and come with fully AquaDura coated lenses. Roof prism in design, there are six elements along each side with a dioptre compensation of +/- 3.5 courtesy of the small button located just below the central focusing knob that allows the user to view objects or animals down to just a fraction over 10ft with exceptional clarity. The 25mm object lenses transmit their 273ft, 1,000 yards field of view through 2.5mm exit pupils and have a twilight factor of 15.8 all of which adds up to excellent performance well after the light has started to fade.

Complete with two eyecups that click into position, these diminutive little Ultravid’s are quick to deploy, can be easily used one handed once the two sides have been adjusted to your own personal eye width and transmit a superbly clear image. Ideal for the shooter who wants to quickly scan an area for pigeons, crows or study the comings and goings on their land, the Leica’s lightweight and size means the shooter can still have their gun at the ready perchance a snap shot arises keeping a close watch on your intended deer.

I’ve now been using a pair of 10x25 Ultravids for the past month and am constantly impressed by their quality and all-round performance to a degree they verge on being all the binoculars you’ll ever need, often out classing larger pairs with ease. But whatever you use them for you certainly won’t be disappointed.

Although these diminutive optics fold down to fit neatly in your shirt pocket, an expanding tan leather case is a worth while accessory available as an extra – you can even get the binoculars a leather covered version.

Expect to pay around £595 for the pair of 10x25 Ultravids seen on test here or slightly more for the leather clad equivalents. For more details and to find your nearest Leica dealers visit www.leica-camera.co.uk.
