Luger DX10 Binoculars

Luger DX10 Binoculars

The DX 10 X 42 models shown here are the middle specification pair of a trio of models (the others being an 8 X 42 and a 12 X 50). With compact dimensions of 144mm X 107mm X 60mm and a low weight of 600g, the binoculars on test are probably one of the best compromises in overall size in relation to their specifications. All have thick rubber protection for the twist extending ocular lenses and of course the eyepieces themselves, but the rubberized, non-slip, anti-glare matt black outer with the word WATERPROOF clearly indicates these binos are for people who don’t head home at the lightest shower.

On the right side, behind the extending eyecup, is the ocular adjuster. Ribbed for ease of use in cold weather or with gloves it does its job admirably. The centrally positioned main focus dial glides effortlessly and quickly as you change focus to scan from one area to another. Field of view (FOV) is 105m @1000m.

The adjustable neck strap attaches via the integral carry straps points, and the captive rubber eyecups have elongated side strap slides as do the two separate front push in lens covers. This means if you thread the neck strap through correctly you’ll never lose a lens cover cap again and that for me will be a first!

Using BAK-7 Roof Prism, a technologically advanced system, the whole optical system is accurately computed to give the closest image possible to what is being viewed. The high quality lenses are given Luger’s ‘DIM’ full coating, helping with both edge to edge clarity and a high degree of performance in low light levels. The 42mm objectives really do suck in any available light and I’ve used them to spot at some distance while foxing under a filtered diffused light beam.

Thanks to their compact size these DX binoculars rest in your hands almost effortlessly, helped by the thumb channels on the underside and the nonslip outer casing. They’ll also fit easily into an outer jacket pocket should you not want to wear them with the neck strap or use the carry case included.

I’ve heard many say the DX range are amongst the finest made by Luger and from my experience of the DX 10 X 42 I’d recommend these to anybody but, like anything of quality, they do come at a price – in this case £519.95.
