Breakaway Coaster NC1

story continues below...

Dialling in your magnification on a variable power scope, certainly on high mag units with lots of movement, can be awkward from the shooting position. To combat this, we have ‘throw levers’ that attach to the magnification ring, adding leverage and practicality. But on the down side, and depending on make, you can be paying £40-80. We got this tip from a fellow shooter who sent us details of Breakaway Coasters. Designed for fishing rods, they make an ideal and cost-effective throw lever too. All-black polymer, they consist of a toothed strap that passes through a stabilising block with an internally threaded rotary collar. All you do is slip them over the eyepiece bell of your scope, which is generous at a maximum of 90mm to a working minimum of 30mm. Work out the best position, so that you can get full movement of the magnification ring, combined with the best position for operation that does not foul bolt operation etc. Then, tighten it down, so that it sits evenly on the surface; as you wind the adjuster, its internal thread will pull the toothed strap tighter and solidly lock it on the ring. Once happy, cut the excess off andvoila, one throw lever! It extends about 30mm, so plenty to get hold of.
