Aim Field Sports are always giving the shooter new products and ones we have real need for. Anyone with a folding stocked rifle will know there is no dedicated quality shooting bag for such rifles. Owners have to keep the sock unfolded and place in a normal bag. Aim looked at the very popular Accuracy international folding stocked rifles and saw there was a need for a dedicated bag. They did the right thing and contacted AI to see what actual size the bag should be and what features it should have. John Dean, the man behind Aim was invited to the AI factory to enable him to come up with the perfect design.
The bag he came up with is called the FS-42, FS standing for folding stock and 42 being the overall length of the bag in inches. Some shooters were squeezing folding stock AIs into Aim’s 40-inch bags, they sort of fit. But with the FS-42 they fit perfectly, Aim have enlarged the pocket that holds the butt stock to take the width of the stock in its much wider folded form. They also added a strap with a snap clip for added security; an additional reinforced support beneath the butt pocket provides extra security for the weapon. It has the normal four fully adjustable weapon straps with snap fastenings, which can be positioned and tightened as you wish to secure the barrel in position. They really don’t want the gun to move around in the bag.
It still comes in Aim Field Sports’ standard 1000 denier Cordura over thick closed cell padding, making it one tough bag. They also include the integral cleaning rod sleeve running along the spine of the bag, a feature of their Aim 40 and Aim 60 bags also.
On their latest version of the bags they have a padded rim, which runs along the inside of the zip. This ensures that the rifle and scope are protected from the opening/closing zip; cool if you have a three grand scope on top of your gun. Aim fit high-grade zips and clips and always have. All zips have flaps to cover them against potential ingress of rain.
There are two large external utility pockets with elasticated straps inside to hold accessories in place. The smaller one is useful for tools and range data books etc. The larger one has four elasticated sections for holding magazines. This big pocket is 50mm smaller than on the Aim 40, which has straps for five magazines.
The Aim FS-42 bag can be carried in three different ways:
Firstly, like a rucksack. With it’s padded shoulder straps with waist and sternum belts for stability when walking or running. The rucksack type straps can be neatly packed away, tucked inside a zipped compartment when not in use.
Secondly, you can carry it as a normal gun bag with a pair of webbing handles positioned midway along the bag, they can be held together with a Velcro closing flap.
The final way is via the webbing handle on the back of the bag (above the rucksack strap compartment). The bag can be dragged along the ground in classic drag bag mode. Alternatively, you can hold the bag securely vertically upright for moving along narrow spaces. I tried an Accuracy International folding stock rifle complete with large 25x magnification tactical scope and a big tactical bipod in the FS-42 and it was a perfect fit, the barrel too was fitted with a large muzzle brake. The bag has been designed to take a folding stock AI in .338 Lapua calibre with a 27-inch barrel. Remember though the FS-42 can take any folding stock rifle; if the stock folds to the right or left, it will fit.
The FS-42 is currently only available in Olive Green for £175.00, that is cheap when you consider how much the rifle and scope costs that you put in it!
