Napier Razorback Protector 2 SMART Shotgun Slip

I’ve tested all current products in Napier’s Razorback range, so I’m pretty clued up now when it comes to how the company are ‘cherry-picking’ suitable kit to up-grade. In that respect it comes as no surprise their original Protector 2 SMART Gunbag is now available in this format. Essentially this policy takes existing models and suitably Razorbacks them to give all the benefits of the new system.
While some vary greatly from the items that spawned them, others seem to naturally lend themselves to the ‘special attention.’ Incidentally, these new products are an option to the original models still available.

Get Smart…

The original SMART SLIP was a versatile design as it was designed for the double barrelled shotgun. Fully extended it took the gun assembled, but it was also possible to literally fold it in half and store barrels and action in separate, internal compartments to offer a more compact and discrete package. So let’s see how Napier have Razorbacked this model.

The outer shell is heavy duty ‘LAMTEC’ canvas, bonded to 4-function layers, a waterproof membrane, high density 10mm foam, EVA TOUGH SHELL and soft Syn-fleece lining. Ribbed, ARMOUR FLEX scuff panels are integrated into critical, high wear areas too. There’s also a comfortable, non-slip, rot proof and adjustable shoulder strap with soft rubber pad. Shortened right down it doubles as a carry handle, as none is fitted. The Unique Weather Seal Guard protects zips and seals the enclosure and there are big pull tags to ease operation.

Double Dimensions

The bag when closed, with barrel extension folded internally now measures 38” long by 11 ½” wide at the rear to 7 ¼” at and is approximately 3 ½” wide. There’s an external pocket at the base at 11 X 6 X 2”. Fleece-lined and zip closed (same design as the main bag) it’s ideal for spare chokes or Napier’s superb Protector 10 Ear Defenders. Conversely you can open the bag and deploy the fold-out barrel extension to allow it to be used as a full-length gun slip. In this mode it accommodates shotguns with a maximum overall length of 50.”

On the Razorback 2 ‘SMART’ Slip the ARMOUFLEX panels seem to be everywhere you look. A large generous section along the spine, the base, the top section and used as muzzle protection, clearly seen when the bag is fully deployed to maximum length. Quite frankly this has to be the finest ‘Leg of Mutton’ shotgun bag on the market. Talk about a traditional design meeting modern hi-tech build materials head on!
