Pentagon Universal Chest Bag 2

Although backpacks are often your best carry option, sometimes the shoulder straps are a hindrance, particularly when it’s time to shoulder a gun and you have to take them off to shoot. The Pentagon Universal Chest Bag 2 (UCB) is what they call a ‘fully ambidextrous chest pack’ and it can be worn over either your left or right shoulder, with the pack itself sitting in the middle of your chest. This means that you can keep your gear to hand but also keep your gun-shoulder clear, ready to take a shot while still carrying the bag.

Details

The main compartment is the perfect size to hold a pair of binoculars and has an inner sleeve pocket secured with a Velcro closure. A secondary, medium-sized admin pocket will hold a reasonable amount of ammunition, spare magazines and other items where you can get to them quickly. Right at the front of the bag, there is a small pocket that is perfect for holding any small items you might need handy, like a phone or some keys. The really good thing about this type of pack is that everything is ‘front and centre’ and easy to get at.

All of the pockets have double YKK zips for easy access, plus drainage eyelets just in case water gets in. The admin pocket has several pen slots, elasticated slots and a swivel snap hook to secure keys, so that you can strap everything in to prevent it from rattling around.

The transporter

The 2” wide adjustable shoulder strap is attached to the bag with spring-loaded D-links at a choice of points to suit the wearer. It will fit up to a 50” chest, so there is plenty of room to fit it over outer clothing. If you want to remove the shoulder strap, there is a strong grab handle on the top of the bag with reinforced stitching at critical points.

There are, of course, plenty of external attachments points, including multiple MOLLE/ PALS straps, a front panel of Velcro, D-Links and a quick release elastic retention cord that’s zig-zagged across the front. However, the bag is intended as a lightweight carry for your essentials and cluttering it up with add-ons would be defeating the point.

Very cleverly, Pentagon has put a concealed compartment on the rear face of the bag. It is secured with a strong press stud and is the perfect place to secure your wallet, documents or other valuables out of sight.

Overall

Weighing just 630-grams, with 3D air-mesh backings and a nice wide strap, this is a very comfortable bag to wear, plus the waterresistant 600D high tensile polyester with taped internal seams is very durable. This is certainly a lot of bag for your money, and if you are looking for a lightweight and minimalistic carry, it is well worth checking out. Pentagon is a great brand and, as usual, the quality of this product is excellent.
