Daystate Airstream IV Carbon Fibre Silencer

Daystate Airstream IV Carbon Fibre Silencer

Since 2000 Daystate has been making a constant effort to improve the design of their popular Airstream silencer range. Their latest, the Mk IV, is the result of a lot of input in relation to testing and re-design to finally offer what they reckon is their finest design to date. They’ve decided to go with the now increasingly popular Reflex (over-barrel) build but with a ‘twist and turn’ in more ways than one. At present there are silencers available for the Huntsman, Merlyn, Airwolf and Air Ranger and even a model for most air rifles with a standard ½” UNF thread.

The brief was to make the silencer more efficient (obviously), lighter (useful) and one that added the least length to the rifle when fitted – hence the reflex build. They’re made to be calibre specific and manufactured from high grade aluminium with a carbon fibre outer sleeve and Delrin end caps. The new package weighs just 3.5oz and measures 6 ¼ x 1 ½” with a muzzle over-hang of 3 ½ - 4” depending on model.

Lock It or Lose It!

Now before getting into the technicalities of the build, a word of caution. If fitting the silencer to a Daystate adaptor it’s essential you put a bit of Loctite on the barrel thread. If not when you unscrew the can there’s a high likelihood of the adaptor staying inside the moddy. You have been warned!

So how does The Airstream IV work? The concept is a simple one that marries two effective ‘silencing’ systems together. Inside the carbon-fibre outer chamber forward of the internal thread is a plenum chamber (void) that by itself creates room for sound dispersal. Following that towards the end cap is the calibre-specific baffle stack. All internals are manufactured from a single billet of high grade, alloy for lightness and more importantly concentricity. So there’s zero chance of the pellet hitting anything as it passes through the can.

I’ve tested all models up to FAC power levels and without doubt they make the signature far quieter (hardly a whisper) than if using one of Daystate’s previous and more traditional designs; they are certainly on par with anything on the market.

In my opinion the Daystate Airstream IV Reflex Silencer is a must have item for any hunter and worth serious consideration if one suits your particular model of air rifle.
