A dedicated workstation is a must for holding your rifle secure and a place to hold those special ‘lotions and potions’ your gun needs for keeping it running at its best. I’m taking it for granted you have suitable screwdrivers, socket set & heads and such like… So it makes sense you need a place to rest the rifle and there’s none better than the Gunsmith Maintenance Center and the even more versatile Portable Maintenance Center from MTM Case-Gard.

MTM Gunsmith’s Maintenance Center (RMC-5)

Measuring 29.5” X 4” X 9.5” the Gunsmith’s Maintenance Center (RMC-5) has two removable ‘Y’ shaped cradles with molded in rubber to give your rifle extra protection when rested. Both cradles have two height adjustment settings to hold any fi rearm level, upright or upside down. Compartments are provided in the base tray for your bottled cleaners to prevent spills. There is so much room in this case, you can carry and store all your gun cleaning supplies in one convenient place - dedicated open ‘rests’ are built into the work area so your cleaning rods can be kept close to hand. It’s also ideal for mounting scopes, swivels, and any general cleaning regimes.

MTM Portable Maintenance Center and Case-Gard Shooter’s Accessory Box

The unit I use particularly when ammo testing or punching paper for a gun test is the Portable Maintenance Center. Measuring 23.2” X 3.5” X 11” it’s designed to be taken to the gun range for easy cleaning and a once over of a rifle after shooting. The Portable Gun Maintenance Center (RMC- 1) fi ts conveniently on top of the Case-Gard Shooter’s Accessory Box for transportation. Similar to the ‘Gunsmiths’ unit, the Portable Maintenance Center comes with two ‘Y’ cradles that store inside and clip into dedicated slots to form the rifl e rest. The cradles are over molded with rubber for protection and a non-slip grip and can also hold two cleaning rods. The base section features sliding dust covers to protect your equipment and keep everything clean and secure inside.

MTM Shooter’s Accessory Box

This range box, like the maintenance centers is made of virtually indestructible polypropylene. The hinge pins are of stainless steel, and clip latches prevent accidental opening. Measuring 20” X 8 ¼” X 9”, the top of the Shooter’s Accessory Box is designed to hold a variety of accessories and shooting kit which are secured in eight compartments by a locking divider. The bottom section of the box has two removable dividers for separating larger items.

The underside of the Portable Maintenance Center has lengthy precisely sized ‘runners’ that extend down to sit over the top of the Accessory box. The handle of the box protrudes through a centre cut-out of the Portable Maintenance Center to allow this. Note that both items are sold separately, but the Accessory Box is well worth buying as it gives extra storage and makes a good solid raised base when working with the Portable Maintenance Center.

Conclusions

For the bench the ‘GMC’ is the favoured work station but if on the move, and for more storage, the ‘PMC’ and Accessory Box combo in my opinion is difficult to beat.
