MTM Shooting Range Box

MTM based in the USA, have long held a reputation for designing and manufacturing products for the shooting enthusiast. Their new Shooting Range Box is a typical example of what they do best, being well thought out and supremely functional.

Supplied in a smart ‘Forest Green’, this Shooting Box provides an easy way to store and transport a wealth of accessories, as well as the neat addition of a ‘Shooting Centre’, where rifles can be worked on in an organized and stream-lined manner.

Construction

The box is moulded from tough plastic compounds in three main sections; the top half of the box consists of the lid and the accessory storage area, and the bottom half holds the workstation and further storage. Flexibility also comes from the way the box disconnects; with chunky snap-down catches used throughout.

Unclip the front two catches, and the top accessory trays can be accessed, with divided space for jags, solvents, lubricants and the like. Further compartments are available underneath the two removable trays, with an array of compartments allowing for all manner of odds and ends to be stored. Dedicated receptacles for cleaning brushes, for example, are all marked up, whilst longer objects, can all comfortably be accommodated in the large open section.

Game of Two Halves

Unclip the two side catches and the entire top half of the box can be lifted clear to reveal the workstation. Two gun supports are flat-packed, and are simply pushed home, into their respective slots. Once in place, construction quality is such that the whole assembly is reassuringly sturdy. The supports should easily accommodate most rifles, and with a choice of slots at one end, particular guns can be set at different heights, which is a nice touch. The adjustable supports are both coated in soft rubber padding, minimizing any chance of marking the rifle, and at the same time offering improved stability. The ‘v’ slots are of slightly different configuration to allow for varying gun dimensions, so the specification has been very well thought through.

Built to Last

MTM need no introduction from me, yet I can certainly vouch for the sheer robustness of the whole set-up, with any rifle held solidly and safely within the rigid supports.

All manner of work can be undertaken with a gun in place; from attaching accessories and making adjustments, to correctly assembling scope and mounts. Having a gun held in position just makes the whole operation that bit simpler, which in turn, makes any task undertaken, more enjoyable.

Of course that large open section in the base can hold significant additional kit, such as tripods, quantities of ammunition, powder scales and such like - helping to organize and tidy into the bargain.

Consider that the removable top half of this box acts as a self-contained slim-line accessories tray in itself, and the versatility of the overall design becomes apparent.
