Strelok Pro Ballistic Programme

Strelok Pro Ballistic Programme

When it comes to mediumto- long range shooting, we need all the help we can get when we need to make ballistic calculations, me especially! So, if there is technology out there that can make life easier, then it definitely has my vote! Available as an ‘app’ for both iPhone and Android, Strelok Pro is really worth a look! It is a ballistic calculator that works everything out for you and in a nutshell, shows you where to aim. Now, firstly download the app from the Google Play store. There are several versions available, including the free basic one, but if you want Pro with all of the bells and whistles, then it is £11.99 and worth every penny!

Strelok Pro is well laid out and simple to use. Once you have downloaded it, enter in the details of your rifle, such as make, model and calibre. Then choose what ammo you are using from the comprehensive ammunition database that is built in. It has virtually everything from rimfire to .50 cal and is constantly being added too. Then, select what scope and reticle you are using, again, there is a comprehensive database with all of the manufacturers on there, plus all of the different types of reticles. You can also enter the twist rate of you barrel too!

Once you have entered in your set-up, oh, and by the way, you can store as many rifle setups as you want, so that you can easily switch from gun to gun. It’s then just a case of entering the distance of your target and environmental conditions like wind direction and the angle that you are positioned. How do you enter wind direction and the angle of the slope that you are shooting from I hear you ask? Well, Strelok Pro has some pretty cool features that allow you to enter in this data with ease.

Data entry

story continues below...

Hit the wind direction button and a compass-like screen pops up and you just have to move the pointer in the direction of the wind and press the ‘OK’ button. You can then enter the wind speed if you can ‘guesstimate’ it! If you want all of this doing for you as far as conditions go (and you have internet coverage where you are shooting) you can press the ’Weatherflow’ button which will give you this info on your location. I must admit, though, I do like to enter these bits in manually.

Same sort of thing if you are shooting at an angle! Hit the ‘Slope angle, degrees’ button and you get a screen that allows you to measure the angle by line of sight. Dead easy, just hold your phone on its side, making sure it is level towards the target and move the angle measure line, so that it points at the target. Press ok, then hit ‘Calculate’ and all the info will come up on screen, as far as scope adjustment is concerned.

The calculator will give you vertical and horizontal adjustments in MOA, MRAD, Inches and clicks. If you just want to see where to aim so to speak, you can just click the ‘Reticle’ button and this will bring up your chosen crosshair with a target behind it in relation to where you should aim. So simple, even I can use this software but there are lots of other features too. Such as if you are shooting moving targets, or multiple ones at different distances. What is really quite fascinating is the data that the app tells you, things like bullet travel time and ft/lbs of energy at the target or muzzle etc. Well worth a look and try next time you are out shooting.

An APP that does it all for you, well almost, the rest is of course down to you, the shooter!
