Venom Strike lighting kit

Night Master has had an unprecedented impact onto the night hunting scene – their first offering being a very high-power IR (infrared) torch that ticked all the right boxes for use with dedicated NV units. Since then the company has developed upon the original design further to bring us a powerful high-spec LED torch, the NM800, and the lower-power and more airgun friendly NM400. The major facility that these units have that has made them so popular is the torch’s modular design which enables the original ‘pre-chosen’ LED to be changed for another colour option or for a NV dedicated IR LED.

When bought in kit format, you get the Venom Master Torch (with LED colour option of choice), high scope mount, 1x 18650 rechargeable battery, dual bay mains charger, remote pressure pad switch plus spare O-ring seals. The torch can also take power from 2x CR123A Lithium batteries, not supplied.

Modular

Manufactured from aircraft grade aluminium, measuring 183mm long and weighing 2250g without batteries, it’s also waterproof to IPX-8 standard and the hard black anodised finish torch is obviously very robustly built. The modular design means it can be unscrewed and broken down into the major component parts. These are the lamp head including bezel, the interchangeable LED module, battery tube/body and the multifunction tail cap assembly. The unique tail cap includes a ‘glow in the dark’ yellow/green on/ off switch for quick activation while around this is a ridged outer edge rotary collar/dial that controls the brightness of the torch. This enables the user to quickly attain the exact amount of light for the situation in hand. As virtually all hunters will mount the torch atop a scope using the large figure of eight split clamp supplied, they’ll also unscrew the tail cap and fit the remote tail switch in place. The end of this unit fits onto the rear of the torch and is configured in exactly the same way as the unit it replaces, but has a generous but not overlong section of coiled then straight section of lead that runs to the elongated oblong shape pressure pad switch. This pad can be mounted anywhere on the stock. The light emitted can be changed from spot to flood by simply rotating the focusable head (including the custom made convex lens) in or out,making this a very versatile performer. When you purchase the torch you can stipulate which colour of LED you require. This can be white, red, green or a dedicated IR LED for use with nightvision kit. The interchangeability of the LED modules is simplicity itself and any other colour module (or IR) is purchased as an optional extra.

Conclusions

The Night Master Venom Strike can put a full-power concentrated beam out to approximately 600 yards with a continuous run time of approximately three hours using the re-chargeable cell supplied. During the test I had no problem clearly detecting rabbit size quarry out to 500 yards+. Also due to the high level of beam spread adjustment offered by the special lens and rotating bezel head, the beam can be concentrated so tightly you can actually make out the profile of the unit’s square shape LED. It’s only when you begin to widen the beam it takes on a more conventional round shape.

The pressure switch operates very positively and the rear mounted ‘light intensity’ tail cap/ switch offers an unrivalled level of adjustment. Also once set on a particular light intensity and switched off, due to the memory function, once turned on again it lights up at the previous setting.
