MTM Case-Gard Four Pistol Case Review: Rugged Protection

I’ve been aware of the MTM brand since I started shooting, and since this well-respected name in the industry began trading back in 1968, that’s hardly surprising. MTM Case-Gard manufactures shooting accessories in Ohio, USA, and their bread and butter is moulded gun cases, storage boxes, ammo boxes, gun rests, and work/maintenance stations, which are all made from special plastics and composite materials.

On show here is the MTM Case-Gard Four Pistol - Handgun/Accessory Case, and as the name suggests, it can take four pistols, depending on their size.

How is the case constructed?

Anyone who has experienced Case-Gard kit will appreciate the robust construction, and this hard case is no exception. Made from rugged polypropylene, it offers real protection and peace of mind for transit and storage of our treasured hardware, and that makes sense for those who take their sport seriously.

The idea is that two pistols can be placed on the bottom, then a thick, cosy layer of foam sits over them, with two more pistols stowed on top. MTM specifies the case as being able to carry four automatics or four revolvers with up to 8” barrels. However, the case is equally at home carrying a variety of air pistols. Accepting that a few of the oversized match air pistols may prove a tight fit, the average revolver or modern pistol will fit with ease. Having that twin layer to work with is a great idea, and a combination of accessories can just as easily be carried. Two pistols, two scopes… the choice is yours.

What are the exterior and security features?

The exterior gets a black textured finish, and a large central handle makes for easy handling. There’s a chunky snap-down catch on either side at the front, and the case is effectively free-standing, with moulded feet underneath. A full-length hinge features, too, so strength and integrity are a given.

Need to go the whole hog with further security? Then that’s also been taken into account here, with twin holes all part of the moulding around the handle. This means twin padlocks can be utilised when security is at a premium, all adding up to a well-thought-out, versatile product. Made in the good old USA is a selling point for many, and MTM’s product-accepted quality speaks for itself.
