› Frank Whyman, a prominent figure in the shooting community and a key contributor to Napier, has passed away.
Frank’s collaborations with Napier influenced the company across a range of products, particularly in the creation of the Gun Care range, many of which have become flagship products for the firm.
Frank’s involvement with Napier lasted many decades. He was instrumental in testing and refining the oils and cleaners that would become synonymous with Napier’s trusted reputation. As the first UK professional to undertake this role, Frank brought a level of expertise and care that set the foundation for the high standards that Napier maintains today.
Frank Whyman has also been the face of Napier, with his image gracing each and every can of lubricant they sell.
Frank developed the Cogswell and Harrison-based formula which he then shared with Napier, enabling them to commercially produce their London Gun Stock Finish. This act of trust exemplified his character. Frank was well known for his belief in sharing knowledge to elevate others and for his nurturing qualities.
A Napier spokesperson said: “As we mourn, we also celebrate Frank’s legacy. To honour his memory, Napier will update the iconic “man on the can” image, a symbol that has come to represent not just the quality of our products but also the people who have made them exceptional.
“Frank personified the very values Napier strives to uphold, proudly making him an enduring part of our story and identity. His legacy lives on—not just in the oils and finishes he helped perfect, but in the spirit of excellence he embodied. He was a pioneer, a mentor, and above all, a friend.”
