There’s no escaping the fact that Jack Pyke’s clothing range has proved highly popular with many shooters, now even more so with the introduction of their latest English Woodland pattern. Now I like the total camo look, which should include the gloves and head gear for the height of function and also fashion. JP now have this covered with a selection of accessories now available in the new English Woodland pattern.
First up is one of my personal favourites - the Stealth Balaclava. Made from brushed tricot polyester with a fleece lining it’s more a short peaked baseball cap with mesh panels on either side that supports the lower face mask section made of their Stealth fabric. The short peak doesn’t catch on a scope eye-bell when shooting. When worn correctly the front rests on the bridge of your nose, affording a high level of protection from the elements and more than adequate face concealment from quarry. So a fine piece of kit for those cold morning and night sessions. Stealth Fabric is a silent, durable high tech material that is designed to be water/windproof and breathable.
Next the Double Knit Balaclava (one-size) also has a peak but not a full hat. The build is a full, knitted balaclava with a camo, Stealth fabric insert in the face area, which is elasticated at the top so it can be pulled right up to keep out the weather.
The Hunters Hat (M-XL) is a pilot style and made completely from Stealth Fabric with all the whistles and bells of brushed tricot, laminated membrane, Polarfleece lining, ear flaps with quick release, a peak at the front and a wrap around front flap. Toggle adjusters keep this highly protective hat in position and as you can see by the images it really does give all round protection.
Now to neck warmers (all one-size) and if like me you find some designs awkward there’s no such problems with either the standard Fleece Neck Gaiter or the Full length Neck Gaiter. As the name suggests the latter (made from 200gms polyester fleece) is quite lengthy and tapers down from a toggle cord adjuster at the top to a ‘V’ shape front that easily touches the upper part of the chest. This is available in green only. The standard Fleece Gaiter is manufactured from non-pilling polyester fleece with pull up/draw cord and toggle/cord adjustment at the rear. These are available in camo, black or green and though all Gaiters are one-size fits all they do not restrict movement or feel uncomfortable and are a must have item.
Last the Hunters Mittens (M-XL), made from 100% Polyester brushed tricot with laminated waterproof membrane, they also have Polarfleece cuffs and linings, leatherette palms, ‘fold back’ thumb for ease of loading and cut forefinger for optimum trigger operation. However as well as this they have full finger cover. This can be drawn over while waiting to keep hands fully protected or folded over back where it’s held in place by internal magnets (much better than Velcro). On the back there are even zipped pockets to store small items.
As it warms up but you still need concealment and protection from the elements the Neoprene Gloves (S-XL) are ideally suited to change into. They feature Velcro wrist adjusters, fold-back trigger finger with prominent grip dot palms.
I really want to stress how comfortable to wear everything I’ve featured is – even the garments in one-size ‘fits all’. Everything has served me well through the bad weather. With that in mind, you have my pick of the bunch. The range is much greater with standard hats, beanies, light mesh face veils, fingerless mitts, and suede palm shooters mitts so check out their website.
