Jahtijakt Snowcamo Membrane Suit

Jahtijakt Snowcamo Membrane Suit

Even though the world is supposed to be effected by global warming, the winters seem to be offering more and more snow and this year in particular has seen the whole country effected. As we all know green camouflage is totally useless in such conditions, so we hunters should follow nature’s example and like the stoat we should change our coat for one that blends in with the snow. When it comes to snow camo you should buy your clothing from a company in one of the artic countries like Finland where snow is almost a year round feature. Jahtijakt is one such company and because they are based within the artic circle they understand how to stay warm in the snow and how to blend seamlessly with the environment in snowy conditions. I have been testing one of their snow suits up here in the frozen north of Scotland over the last few months in some seriously heavy snow backed up by temperatures that dropped to -17 at times. In order to hunt in such conditions your clothing has first of all to be seriously warm; Jahtijakt clothing is of course designed to operate in such conditions with ease (as -17 is a fairly mild day in the artic).

The reason for the phenomenal level of warmth offered by Jahtijakt clothing is the use of an integrated layering system. First comes the underwear of long johns and long sleeved vest made of a breathable mesh type material costing just £29.50 then comes a mid layer of fleece that is extremely light weight yet dense feeling like felt, again comprising of long johns and long sleeved shirt and again costing just £29.50. Over the top of these two layers that lock in body heat whilst allowing moisture of escape comes the snow suit. Dressed in this manner temperatures of –10 down to –17 are easily dealt with, I can honestly say that there wasn’t a single moment throughout the entire test period that covered several hundred hours in the field when I felt cold, in fact the reverse was the case when the temperature warmed up to –3 I had to dispense with the mid layer because I was too warm.

Not only is the snow suit extremely warm it is exceptionally waterproof, even when lying in melting snow that has turned to slush - as I did on numerous occasions. I also had the misfortune to get caught out in a blizzard in soft snow that clings to clothing and capable of soaking through the best of coats, but when I arrived home after several hours fighting through the blizzard I was still bone dry and as warm as toast in the snow suit. As to the effectiveness of the snow suits camo pattern, they say a picture is worth a thousand words so I shall let the pictures do the talking and I think you’ll agree that they fully illustrate that in this suit it is possible to completely merge with a snowy environment. This incredible suit - capable of dealing with serious artic conditions - can be added to your hunting wardrobe for just £149.50, and if the winters continue in the pattern shown this year it is a must have piece of kit.
