Harkila and sister company Seeland are synonymous with top quality, high end outdoor wear. In the UK hunters usually opt for one of their many single colour suits. However, there’s also camo too with X-Invisible and Q Fleece Optifade being two of my favourites, but in-keeping with the technical build of these garments are priced accordingly.
Seeland have purposely launched a more affordable option – the Keeper Jacket and Trousers in Erase XT camo. Using a mixture of base colours coming through greens to browns into black all overlaid and interspersed with a reasonable amount of photo-realistic bark, branch, leaves and ground foliage. Erase XT is for want of a better term – hybrid, new era DPM.
Manufactured using a SeeTex water repellent outer shell with an extra lightweight ‘SeeTex’ wind/waterproof and breathable membrane, these lightweight and hi-tech garments are made for the harshest conditions. The degree of warmth offered is very much up to the base and mid-layer clothing you wear underneath. Even so they’ve added just the right amount of insulation and an inner soft touch lining.
The Jacket features a generous ‘internally adjustable’ detachable hood with a sensibly sized peak. Stowage is catered for by two large overflap and press stud fasten cargo pockets and two zip fasten Napoleon-types with open fleece lined hand warmers set lower between the two. Internally there’s a mobile/radio pocket on the lower right and a flat zip close pocket on the upper left. A double-zip with press stud fastening storm flap and high stand-up collar secures the front. Part elasticated cuffs utilise two-position stud fastened straps.
At the rear, you can see the action cut as the design uses an extra layer of material integrated into the build. This expands so allowing good freedom of movement. At the base/sides is a game pocket with zip access and over flap.
Belt n Braces
The trousers have an extra high back waist band with belt loops, buttons for braces and zip fly with double stud fastening. A detachable metal ‘game carrier’ comes supplied. Pockets consist of two rear zip/flap types, two stud fasten cargos on the legs and hand warmer slots up front. Again action cut they offer a regular leg to accommodate high boots.
Boot flaps to prevent water ingress are integrated into the build seen as external ‘drop down’ Erase XT material that leave the trousers above the knee to extend down to the mid-calf area where they can be fastened at the rear with a strong double sided Velcro backstrap. They also give extra ‘knee’ protection and also adjustment/securing points to tailor the lower leg area to your build and footwear worn. The ankles use strong Velcro fastening strap adjusters for the final cinch!
