With summer quickly rushing past, I have been looking at some lightweight headwear of classic design that should be of interest to the shooter. The first is the Jack Pyke Countryman Cap, a traditional looking “flat cap” which comes in either Hunters Green for the “old school” look, and English Oak Camo.
Made from 100% polyester, this low crowned cap has an outer of Jack Pyke’s waterproof breathable “Stealth Breathatex” material that is soft, quiet, looks somewhat like moleskin and is well up to warding off the rain and keeping sun and rain out of your eyes. The lining to the cap is a silky polyester, and there is a full binding.
Simple, light, comfortable and with a traditional look, the Jack Pyke Countryman Cap goes well with the rest of the Jack Pyke clothing range, comes in sizes 58, 59, 60 and 61 in English Oak camo and Hunters Green and costs around £12.95.
The second hat is the Jack Pyke Reversible Boonie Hat, a style of hat that is widely popular. With its high crown and drooping brim, this fully reversible hat is made from tough ripstop polycotton and keeps sun, rain and wind out of your eyes and off your neck, while also helping conceal you from your quarry.
One side of the hat is printed with the Jack Pyke “English Oak” camo, the other in Olive Green (the review sample was more a tan colour) for when camo is not appropriate. Both sides are embroidered with the Jack Pyke logo.
A versatile hat, the Jack Pyke Reversible Boonie is also available in Olive/Smokey Branch camo, both coming as one-size-fits-all at around £7.70.
Both the Countryman Cap and Reversible Boonie are made to Jack Pyke’s normal quality finish and should prove popular when warmer, heavier headwear goes back in the wardrobe for the warmer months. They are also both great value for money.
