Jack Pyke Wild Trees Grassland Camo
- Last updated: 26/01/2017
To say I was surprised when I heard of a new camo pattern from Jack Pyke of England would be an understatement. Their most recent in-house design (English Woodland) isn’t a year old yet and though growing in popularity it’s not yet to the level of their original English Oak, which has been around for some time and proved itself with many hunters.
Wet-Look
Called Wild Trees Grassland it has a light base overlaid with a frugal dash of brown leaves and heavily interspersed with straggly rye grass, dying reed stems and other flora found over wet lands/marshes. Yes, it is not dissimilar to Realtree Max 4 as it uses a similar concept and colour scheme in what it’s trying to achieve. So would seem well suited to wildfowl and pigeon shooters.
As they have done with English Woodland and Oak they are launching Wild Tree Grassland in the most popular garments in their Outdoor Hunter clothing range – those being the Hunter Jacket, trousers and Stealth baseball cap.
Manufactured from their Stealth Fabric, the material is breathable, waterproof and silent. The build uses an outer shell of Polyester-brushed tricot with a laminated membrane. The lining is Polyester with brushed mesh and taffeta. The jacket features a full length double opening zip and storm flap, concealed hood in the high storm collar, two lower front bellows pockets with cartridge holders, two hand warmers, one internal chest pocket and a fold down seat flap at the rear. The cuffs are designed to keep out the elements and have elasticated weather shrouds and are Velcro-adjustable.
Pull On, Pull Over
As before the trousers are a pull-over design and have a wide elasticated waist band and inner draw cord with toggle adjuster. There are two front and two side pockets with flap and press stud fastening. On the ankle are 14” zips with press stud flaps for easy removal for putting on over boots and have Velcro straps to cinch tight. They’re reinforced at the seat and knees and are one of the better designs available, as few offer the outer pockets these do.
I’ve used the pattern over sparse moorland and amongst the wild grasses these areas hold. It works, but this is very terrain specific and I feel will be bought due to this reason.
